Breast Augmentation

Also known as Augmentation Mammoplasty

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty), is a popular aesthetic and surgical procedure that involves the use of implants to enhance the size and shape of the breasts.

There are different types of implants available. The main type of implants used in breast augmentation are silicone.
Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel and offer a more natural look and feel.

Good candidates for breast augmentation are women who are in good health, and are dissatisfied with the appearance, size or shape of their breasts.

Consultation:
The first step in the breast augmentation process is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the surgeon will examine the patient's breasts, discuss their goals and expectations, and recommend the appropriate type and size of implants.

Incision Options:
The surgeon will also discuss the various incision options with the patient. These can include inframammary incisions (made along the fold under the breast), periareolar incisions (made around the edge of the areola), or transaxillary incisions (made in the armpit).

Breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately one to two hours to complete. During the procedure, the surgeon makes the incision, create a pocket in the breast tissue or chest muscle, insert the implant, and close the incision with sutures.

The results of breast augmentation are usually visible immediately after the surgery, but the recovery can take approximately six weeks for the implants to settle into their final position.
They will also need to wear a supportive bra for several weeks to ensure proper healing. It is important to avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for at least four to six weeks after the surgery.
