Breast Reduction

Also known as Reduction Mammoplasty

Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty), is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess breast tissue and skin in order to achieve a smaller breast size.

Large Breasts: Breast reduction is typically recommended for women who have large breasts that are causing discomfort or health problems.
Physical Discomfort: Candidates for breast reduction may experience physical discomfort such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as skin irritation and rashes under the breasts.
Realistic Expectations: It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. Breast reduction can help to alleviate physical discomfort and improve the appearance of the breasts, but it cannot completely eliminate all scars or produce perfect symmetry.

Anesthesia: Breast reduction is typically performed under general anesthesia.
Incisions: The surgeon will make incisions on the breast, typically in a keyhole or anchor shape, in order to remove excess tissue and skin.
Reshaping: The surgeon will reshape the remaining breast tissue and reposition the nipple and areola to achieve a more natural appearance.
Closure: The incisions will be closed with sutures and bandages will be placed over the breasts.

Consultation: Patients will typically have a consultation with the surgeon prior to the procedure in order to discuss their goals and expectations for the surgery.
Medical History: The surgeon will also review the patient's medical history to ensure that they are a good candidate for the procedure.
Preparation: Patients will be instructed to avoid smoking and certain medications in the weeks leading up to the procedure in order to minimize the risk of complications.

Recovery: Patients will need to rest for several days after the procedure and avoid strenuous activities for several weeks.
Pain and Discomfort: Patients may experience some pain and discomfort in the days following the procedure, which can be managed with pain medication.
Scarring: There will be some scarring associated with breast reduction, but the scars will typically fade over time and can be hidden with clothing and undergarments.
Results: The results of breast reduction are typically visible immediately after the procedure, with final results becoming apparent over the following weeks and months.
